Elaine Arkansas Massacre

September 30 - October 1, 1919

White law enforcement officers attempted to stop a meeting of approximately 100 Black farmers – mostly sharecroppers, who had gathered to form a local chapter of the Progressive Farmers and Household Union of America (PFHUA) at a church in Hoop Spur in Phillips County, Arkansas, by Black sharecroppers.

DEATHS: 100–237 black people, 5 white people
Injuries: 800+
